A Tax Notice Is a Deadline-Driven Task,
Not a Reason to Guess.

The right next step depends on the notice type, service date, response deadline, return history and the records behind the issue. We help taxpayers identify the issue, organise supporting evidence, reconcile portal data and assess the appropriate response or representation scope.

If a notice has a response deadline, note the date and preserve the full notice, attachments and portal history. Do not rely on a general article to determine the deadline or legal remedy.

Notice Triage Navigator

Four short questions. The result is a screening aid, not a legal opinion.

1

Which communication did you receive?

Question 1 of 4

Notice Type Explainers

Processing Demand / Tax-Credit Mismatch

Compare the filed return, computation, challans, TDS credits, Form 26AS/AIS and the notice calculation. Check the assessment year, PAN and challan details, and whether the issue is factual, portal-related or needs a formal remedy.

Defective Return

Read the exact defect, notice date and response window. Confirm the ITR form, schedules, audit particulars and data the notice says is omitted before any correction is filed.

Scrutiny / Information Request

Build a question-to-evidence matrix: each question, the relevant books or records, an explanation, an annexure and a reconciliation. Keep the response consistent with the filed return and earlier submissions.

Reassessment Communication

Review the exact provision, notice date, year, reasons or material stated, previous proceedings and the available response or objection routes. Reassessment is highly fact- and date-sensitive.

Penalty / Immunity Issue

Assess the order, demand, penalty notice, dates and eligibility criteria against the statutory route available. Immunity is not automatic for every penalty or demand.

GST Notice / Registration Issue

Identify the form and proceeding, the tax period, the alleged mismatch, the reply date and whether the registration is active, suspended or cancelled. GST remedies and timelines differ from income-tax procedures.

Deadline not confirmed, prioritise review

A screening aid, not a prediction

This checklist flags whether your records look ready for review. It does not predict whether a response will succeed, and it is not a substitute for a complete document review before you submit anything.

Evidence Matrix Builder

Map each question or allegation in the notice to the record that answers it. This stays in your browser only; nothing here is uploaded or sent to us automatically.

How the Engagement Works

01

Triage

Identify notice type, year, deadline and immediate procedural risk.

02

Document Map

Identify the records needed to answer each point raised.

03

Technical Review

Examine facts, prior filings and the statutory routes available.

04

Scope and Execution

Agree whether the work is a factual reconciliation, written response, rectification, appeal or representation.

05

Submission Control

Maintain the final response, annexures, proof of submission and follow-up dates.

Not every matter includes every stage above. The actual scope is agreed once the notice and records have been reviewed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Ignoring a notice because it looks like an automated portal message.
Relying only on an email alert without reading the actual portal communication.
Confusing a processing intimation, scrutiny notice, reassessment notice and penalty order.
Submitting a generic explanation without a document-to-allegation reconciliation.
Missing the deadline while trying to perfect every supporting document.
Assuming rectification, appeal, immunity or reassessment objections are interchangeable remedies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you guarantee that a demand will be deleted?
No. Outcomes depend on facts, evidence, procedure and the authority's decision.
What if I do not understand the notice type?
Use the navigator above, select "not sure" and arrange a review of the complete communication.
Should I reply immediately myself?
Do not ignore the deadline, but avoid submitting a rushed or inconsistent response. Get the deadline and issue assessed promptly instead.
Can a tax-credit mismatch be corrected?
It may be resolvable through reconciliation, payer or challan correction or a legally available portal remedy, depending on the cause and stage.
Can you handle GST notices too?
GST notice support is offered only within the firm's agreed competence and engagement scope for the specific matter.
What should I share first?
The complete notice, the relevant year, the deadline and a short factual summary. Sensitive records should follow through an agreed secure channel, not this form.
